With the weather starting to warm up, it’s time to get your fishing boat and hit the river! But before you take your craft out this spring, you’ll need to make sure you’ve prepared your tackle box. Lures, Bobbers, and Sinkers

All of the above items are pretty standard when it comes to anglers, so you may already have some in your tackle box. If you’re new to angling, it’s a good idea to have a selection of these items on hand.

Lures

Your tackle box should include minnow imitations, top-water lures, spinners, and spoons. Each type of lure is designed to attract a different type of fish, so it’s good to have a variety on hand. You never know which lures will work best in which circumstances.

Bobbers

Also known as floaters, these lightweight devices indicate when there is a fish on your line. You’ve probably seen the common round, red and white plastic bobbers before, but these limit how deeply you can cast your line. Because of this, we recommend having some slip bobbers in your tackle box.

Sinkers

In general, a lure or a hook and worm won’t be heavy enough to sink deep into the water. This means you’ll need a weight or sinker to compensate. Keep plenty of extra sinkers in your tackle box since these devices are easy to lose. You’ll find sinkers made of steel, bismuth, tungsten, or brass.

Needle-Nose Pliers

This small tool is extremely useful in all sorts of situations, so it’s definitely a tackle box essential. Use your pliers to remove hooks from fish, bend wires, or remove any other items that may be causing you issues.

Extra Line

There’s nothing worse than being on the water and running out of fishing line. Your line can easily get tangled or break while you’re angling, so make sure you have some extra line in your tackle box.

Spare Hooks

Having plenty of hooks in your tackle box is always smart. We recommend having a variety to choose from, including J-hooks and French hooks as well as different sizes of hooks. You never know what type of fish you may encounter!
