Before you store your boat for the winter season, there are a few things you'll want to make sure you do. Here at Mark's Leisure Time Marine, we have boat winterization services and storage available at our boat dealership and marina in upstate New York, near Rochester, and a short drive from Syracuse.
First, you'll want to take your boat out on the water one last time. While you do, pay close attention to the way it performs. This will let you note and diagnose any problems that may exist, and you can build a to-do checklist when it's time for summerization again. Fill the fuel tank and add some fuel stabilizer, allowing the engine to run for about 15 minutes to allow the stabilizer to reach all the moving parts of your engine. When your short trip is over, you can put the boat back up on the trailer and continue with your pre-winterization process.
Your boat will also need a thorough wash, and pay special attention to any metal parts that may be prone to corrosion. If your boat has a head, you'll need to flush the system with fresh water and drain the holding tanks. Colder winters, like the ones here in upstate New York, will also require some antifreeze in the system, which we will take care of for you during our boat winterization process.
Even though you've put a fuel stabilizer into your tank, you'll also want to give the boat an oil change. Replace the filter as well, to make sure that the boat has a fresh start when spring comes back around again. The coolant system will also need a flush with water, and then add some antifreeze to keep things stable when the ice starts forming.
Lastly, you want to remove any items from the boat that may be damp or could mold. When you're all done, your boat should be off the ground, but supported properly so the hull doesn't warp. Here at Mark's Leisure Time Marine, we perform a multi-point inspection of the hoses and belts, and we will also grease the bellows, steering systems, and anything else that needs a little more lubrication. Our boat winterization process also includes fogging the engine, removing drain plugs, and disconnecting your batteries.
Here at Mark's Leisure Time Marine, we can take care of all your boat winterization needs, including summerization when it's time to get the boat back onto the water. Just fill out the Winterization Form, or give us a call and we can help you through the process.
